Our Process

1

Site Evaluation

We assess your property's grade, soil stability, drainage patterns, and access to determine the best approach for your hardscape project.

2

Design & Materials

We present design options with material samples. You choose from natural stone, pavers, stamped concrete, or other options that suit your style and budget.

3

Base Preparation

Proper excavation, compaction, and base material installation. This step is critical along the Wasatch Front, where repeated freeze-thaw cycles can shift poorly built hardscapes.

4

Installation & Finishing

We install the hardscape elements, set joints, and finish with sealant or polymeric sand as needed. Final grading ensures proper drainage away from structures.

Common Challenges We Solve

Frost heave shifting pavers and cracking concrete
Poor drainage causing water to pool on patios over clay
Retaining wall failure from inadequate drainage behind the wall
Settling in the compacted builder fill of newer subdivisions
UV wear on sealants in Utah's high-elevation sun

We offer hardscaping in these areas and beyond.

Hardscaping FAQs

A standard paver patio in Salt Lake City ranges from $15 to $30 per square foot installed, depending on materials and complexity. A 300 square foot patio typically runs $4,500 to $9,000. Natural stone costs more, typically $25 to $50 per square foot. We provide exact quotes after an on-site assessment.

Properly built hardscapes withstand Utah winters without issue. The key is base preparation: we excavate to a minimum depth of 8 inches, use compacted road base, and install a gravel layer for drainage. The valley's clay holds moisture, so that drainage layer is what prevents frost heave, the primary cause of cracking and shifting through our freeze-thaw cycles.

Small projects like walkways take 2 to 3 days. A standard patio takes 3 to 5 days. Larger projects with retaining walls, outdoor kitchens, or multiple elements can take 2 to 4 weeks. Weather delays are possible, so we plan projects with buffer time built in.

Most residential patio and walkway projects don't require permits. Retaining walls over 4 feet tall, structures with electrical or gas connections (outdoor kitchens, fire features), and projects near property lines may require permits. Requirements vary between Salt Lake Valley cities, and we handle the permitting process for you when needed.
